FOI request detail

Windrush Line

Request ID: FOI-3294-2425

You asked

I am just wondering why it seems to be that the Windrush line has such frequent closures? No other lines seem to have as many planned disruptions as Windrush line, why is that?

We answered

Our ref: FOI-3294-2425

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 13 January 2025 asking for information about the London Overground Windrush line.

Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and our information access policy.

I can confirm that we do hold the information you require. Closures on the Windrush are necessary to enable mandatory maintenance work which enables us to run safe and reliable services, and to undertake enhancement works which allows us to replace old/worn assets and add new services and facilities for our customers.

We have had a number of recent closures to facilitate an upgrade to Surrey Quays station. There are three more such closures planned.

Other closures, instigated by Network Rail, are for maintenance work e.g., to provide an upgrade to the signalling system. We work closely with Network Rail to keep the number of closures to a minimum and ensure as much work is done as possible in each closure.

Please note, we always ensure there is an alternative route available and provide bus replacement services where possible.

If you are not satisfied with this response please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.

Yours sincerely,
